After two years of using Airbnb almost exclusively, I\u2019ve decided to return to hotels. Here\u2019s why:<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n
    \n
  1. No loyalty rewards<\/strong>
    Marriott, Hilton, and even Booking.com reward repeat customers with points, upgrades, or discounts. Airbnb doesn\u2019t. After two years of loyalty, I got nothing back.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. High rates without hotel perks<\/strong>
    Airbnb rates are now as high as\u2014sometimes higher than\u2014hotels. But hotels provide daily cleaning, fresh towels, and reliable service. At Airbnbs, you\u2019re lucky to get two towels, and any extra cleaning is charged on top of steep \u201ccleaning fees.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. Check-in headaches<\/strong>
    Hotels offer 24\/7 front desks. With Airbnb, I\u2019ve faced rigid check-in times, extra charges for \u201clate\u201d arrivals, and confusing entry instructions. Some stays started with nothing but stress.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  4. Security concerns<\/strong>
    Hotels have security staff, cameras, and concierge support. Most Airbnbs I stayed in had none of that, leaving me uneasy when checking in late at night or leaving early in the morning.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  5. Ridiculous rules<\/strong>
    Some hosts go overboard: asking me to pay electricity charges after my stay, to take out my own trash despite paying a cleaning fee, to pay for digital \u201clate\u201d check-ins, banning all visitors even for solo travellers, and restricting use of amenities like pools or gyms. It feels unreasonable.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  6. Strict cancellation policies<\/strong>
    Airbnb\u2019s cancellation terms are far harsher than hotels. In many cases, even same-day changes or cancellations mean you lose all<\/em> your money. Hotels, by contrast, usually offer flexible policies that let you adjust your plans without major penalties.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  7. Hidden fees and taxes<\/strong>
    With Airbnbs, the final price often looks nothing like the headline rate. Cleaning fees, service fees, extra guest fees, resort-style charges, and taxes all stack up quickly. Hotels are far more transparent\u2014what you see is much closer to what you pay.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  8. Poor customer support<\/strong>
    Even in emergencies, Airbnb support can take hours to respond, leaving you stranded when you most need help. Hotels, on the other hand, always have someone on hand\u2014at the front desk or by phone\u2014ready to resolve issues immediately.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  9. Impact on local housing<\/strong>
    Airbnb\u2019s growth pushes more properties into short-term rentals, driving up rental prices for locals. Hotels don\u2019t remove housing stock from the market, but Airbnb\u2019s popularity has made it harder for residents in many cities to find affordable long-term accommodation.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  10. Unprofessional hosts and poor quality control<\/strong>
    Some hosts are simply rude or lack basic hospitality skills. I\u2019ve stayed in Airbnbs where the property looked nothing like the photos, forcing me to leave the same day. Many listings are poorly designed, cheaply furnished, or clearly managed without care or compassion. Unlike hotels, which must meet consistent standards, Airbnb feels like a gamble every time.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    In short:<\/strong> Airbnbs are no longer cheaper, no longer more convenient, and nowhere near as reliable as hotels. With hotels, I get rewards, consistency, security, flexibility, and professional service\u2014things Airbnb simply doesn\u2019t deliver. In the last two years i’ve stayed at over 30 airbnb properties all over the world.<\/p>
