The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Barbuda Affairs says<\/g> it is using every opportunity to showcase its products and services, \u00a0as it embarks on more comprehensive ways to promote and develop the sector in Antigua and Barbuda.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Its latest outing was at Wadadli Day, a cultural\nextravaganza which was held at Victoria Park (Botanical Gardens) over the\nweekend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Brent Georges, Agricultural Assistant three said that it is\nimportant to let the public know what is taking place within the ministry where\ncrop production is concerned.<\/p>

\"\"<\/div>\n\n\n\n

 In this instance, the\nGreen Castle Agricultural Station was the showpiece with a number of plants which\nincluded mangoes, citrus, cashew and pomegranate. Georges also underscored the\nhealth aspect of the display.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis is in an effort to not only market what we have at the\nagricultural station but also to promote a healthy way of living,  so Antiguans and Barbudans could have more access\nto trees that are not readily available out there,\u201d Georges stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Persons interested in these trees and more can contact the\nGreen Castle Agricultural Station at 462-0056.<\/p>

Georges also used the opportunity to share his views on the\nsignificance of Wadadli Day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWadadli Day is very important in the calendar of Antigua and Barbuda, it gives Antiguans and Barbudans a great opportunity to showcase themselves and the products they have to offer. \u201c<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n
\"\"\/<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Georges said that he believes the event would be even more\nimpacting if more tourists who are visiting the country at the time would come\nand see what Antiguans and Barbudans are capable of doing.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

The wide variety of produce from Green Castle covered pumpkin,\nlettuce, peppers, sweet potatoes and cabbage. Also on display was our locally\nmade sweet potato and cassava bread. The Communications Unit stopped by the booth\njust in time to see a smiling customer who was all excited about her cabbage\npurchase.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kenrick Francis, Agricultural Assistant One said that the\nministry is trying to push the concept of \u201cbuying local\u201d in an effort to\nenhance the health and nutrition of all. Francis also shared his thoughts on\nwhat Wadadli Day means.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cTo me, Wadadli Day is all about the things that our Forefathers\nhave been doing since way back then to promote our local products. Wadadli Day\nis nothing without out pineapples, our roast corn, cha-cha dumpling and\npeanuts. It\u2019s a celebration and a special day to promote all these things local\nnot only in agriculture but the other local business as well.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the interesting sets of produce that stood out was\nsome huge sweet potatoes. Francis told us about the history behind what is\ncalled the \u201cMandela Potato.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe reason why it\u2019s called Mandela it\u2019s because it is a fighter,\nit is grown during the drought…its drought tolerant. You have other types of\npotatoes like the Beauregard where you need a large amount of water for\nproduction.\u2019 It has orange flesh and purple flesh inside.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Georges and Francis also thanked the entire team of Ministry\nof Agriculture who played an important in making the display possible at the\nWadadli Day Event.<\/p>\n
