His Excellency Sir Rodney Williams, Governor General of Antigua and Barbuda<\/a>, accompanied by Her Excellency\u00a0 Lady Sandra Williams and Her Excellency Karen-Mae Hill, High Commissioner of Antigua and Barbuda<\/a> to the\u00a0 United Kingdom, visited Mr and Mrs David and Ketura Thomas on 31st <\/sup>July 2025 during their recent trip to the\u00a0 United Kingdom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The visit celebrated the couple\u2019s milestone of 66 years of marriage.\u00a0<\/p>

David Thomas was born in Urlings on 21st <\/sup>November 1931 and migrated to the United Kingdom in 1957. Ketura was born in Bolans on 8th <\/sup>June 1942 and joined him in England in1958.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They were married in the United Kingdom on 19th <\/sup>July 1959, beginning a life together that has spanned more than six decades. <\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Together they raised five\u00a0 children \u2013 Chris, Kevin, Andrew, Suzanne, and Sonia and are the grandparents of seven grandchildren and eleven\u00a0 great grandchildren.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Their marriage has been recognised twice by the Royal Family. First, in July 2019, the couple received a message\u00a0 from Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II for their Diamond (60th<\/sup>) Wedding Anniversary; and in 2025, they\u00a0 received a congratulatory message from Their Majesties King Charles III and Queen Camilla on their 66th<\/sup> anniversary.\u00a0<\/p>

During the visit, Sir Rodney greeted the Thomas\u2019 family with a letter of congratulations, continuing a tradition of  recognition that began in 2019 when the Governor General also sent the family a message marking their 60th<\/sup> wedding anniversary.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

His Excellency Sir Rodney Williams <\/a>said: \u201cDavid and Ketura\u2019s 66 years together is a shining example of love, respect and\u00a0 partnership.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Their journey from Antigua to the United Kingdom, and the beautiful family they have nurtured, is a testament to their\u00a0 resilience and commitment. It was an honour to meet them and celebrate this extraordinary milestone in person.\u201d\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Her Excellency Karen-Mae Hill also commented: \u201cThe story of David and Ketura is one of dedication \u2013 to each other, to their\u00a0 family and to their heritage. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Their life together serves as inspiration not only to their loved ones, but the wider Antiguan and Barbudan\u00a0 community here in the United Kingdom and back home. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

They raised each of their children to have an identity grounded in their Antiguan\u00a0 and Barbudan heritage and two of those children now live in Antigua.\u201d\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 1964, David began work at Fords Dagenham, where he was employed in the engine plant for 30 years. Ketura  was a dedicated housewife and a skilled seamstress and machinist.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Royal Family traditionally sends congratulatory messages to couples in the United Kingdom celebrating\u00a0 significant wedding anniversaries, such as their 60th <\/sup>(Diamond), 65th<\/sup>, 70th <\/sup>(Platinum), and each year thereafter. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This\u00a0 custom was established by King George V in 1917 and has been carried on through his successors, including the\u00a0 late Queen Elizabeth II and now King Charles III.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These messages are a way of formally honouring the commitment\u00a0 and enduring bonds within marriages.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
