Speaking at the XVI Regional Conference on Women in Mexico, Senator Shenella Govia said the government, through the Directorate of Gender Affairs, was advancing policies to recognise and protect the care sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe educate, craft policy, and advise on legislation to ensure the care society is valued and protected,\u201d she said.<\/p>

Senator Govia outlined updates to Antigua and Barbuda\u2019s social protection framework, which now covers home help for the elderly, assistance for the homeless, support for children and people living with disabilities, and aid for those living below the poverty line.<\/p>

She noted that the governance structure of the system includes representatives from women\u2019s rights groups, ensuring gender perspectives are embedded in policy-making.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The conference, organised by UN Women and other regional partners, focused on advancing gender equality and inclusive governance across Latin America and the Caribbean.<\/p>
