Cashew Hill man fined over unprovoked stabbing<\/strong><\/p>

A Cashew Hill resident who admitted to stabbing a stranger in an unprovoked attack has been ordered to pay thousands of dollars in fines and compensation or face several years in prison.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kenroy Paige appeared before Justice Tunde Bakre in the High Court to be sentenced for wounding with intent over the incident on 21 June 2023.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

The court heard that Paige approached a young man from behind and stabbed him in the side without warning. The attack was captured in photographs and video footage, showing Paige standing in the street holding a white-handled knife. Police later recovered two knives at the scene.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Justice Bakre ordered Paige to pay a $2,000 fine within 30 days or serve four years and four months in prison if the payment is not made. He must also pay $1,500 in compensation to the victim within six days or serve an additional six months in jail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The compensation order is intended to provide some redress to the victim for the assault.<\/p>

Paige pleaded guilty to the charge in April, accepting full responsibility for the stabbing of a man he did not know.<\/p>\n
