The\nMinistry of Health, Wellness and the\nEnvironment has distributed over one\nthousand mosquito nets to health facilities around the island. <\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

This\nis an initiative that was suggested by the Dengue Task Force to aid in the\nprevention of Dengue Fever.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On\nWednesday (20th<\/sup> February), representatives from the Ministry\ndistributed one thousand, three hundred and fifty nets to among five\norganizations. <\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

These\ninclude the Fiennes Institute, the Care Project, Mount St. John\u2019s Medical\nCentre and the Medical Division.   The\nMedical Division will be responsible for the distribution of the nets to the\nvarious health clinics around the island. <\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

The\nsister isle of Barbuda will also be receiving a number of mosquito nets.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, <\/strong>the Ministry continues to urge residents to rid their surroundings of\nmosquito breeding sites.  The plea comes\nfrom Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Rhonda Sealey-Thomas who stressed the\nimportance of being vigilant about mosquito control.<\/p>

The public is reminded that\nDengue is a viral disease spread by the Aedes Aegypti mosquito. Symptoms of\nDengue include fever, headache, rash,\nvomiting which could lead to dehydration, muscle pain, dark colour stool, bleeding from the nose and mouth\nand inability to adapt to bright lights. <\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Parents are reminded to pay\nkeen attention to babies who may become dehydrated and cry without tears and\nuse fewer diapers.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Any person who believes he or\nshe may be infected should NOT use Aspirin, Ibuprofen\nor Advil and other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agents, but instead use\nother fever-reducing agents such as\nParacetamol, Panadol and Cetamol.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reducing the number of Dengue\ncases requires reducing the number of mosquitoes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Vector Control Unit at the\nCentral Board of Health has intensified its mosquito reduction activities\nthrough increased inspections to identify and destroy mosquito breeding sites\nand increased fogging operations that kill the adult mosquito. <\/p>\n
