the Social Security Scheme, who presented a detailed report on the Scheme\u2019s performance over the past 15 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> From the outset, both officials voiced strong support for the Cabinet\u2019s decision\u00a0 of <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/antiguanewsroom.com\/saharan-dust-prompts-air-quality-alert-in-antigua-and-barbuda\/?swcfpc=1\">Social Security <\/a><\/strong>investing in and responsible Minister&nbsp;retain&nbsp;ultimate authority&nbsp;over the Fund\u2019s strategic direction and investments.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The&nbsp;Investment Committee and Board&nbsp;provide oversight; however,&nbsp;Cabinet approval is required for all investment decisions, particularly following legislative amendments made in&nbsp;2016.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The importance of maintaining&nbsp;fiduciary responsibility&nbsp;and safeguarding the&nbsp;solvency of the Fund&nbsp;was repeatedly underscored.<\/p><div id=\"antig-1315451720\" class=\"antig-content_2 obligations. The then administration was forced to secure a\u00a0$30 million injection from the IMF\u00a0to prevent collapse. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In contrast, under the stewardship of Prime Minister\u00a0Gaston Browne, the Scheme was stabilized and restored to solvency\u2014even during the COVID-19 pandemic, when monthly contributions fell from\u00a0EC $12 million to EC $7 million.
