Dominica has recorded 11 homicides so far in 2025, with four involving firearms, according to Acting Chief of Police Lincoln Corbette.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking at a press briefing on Monday, Corbette said six of the cases have been solved, and investigations into the remaining incidents are ongoing. He added that suspects have been identified in three of the gun-related killings, but no charges have been filed.<\/p>

Police efforts to tackle gun crime have led to the seizure of seven firearms\u2014five through vehicle checkpoints and two during house searches. Authorities also confiscated 84 rounds of ammunition, 16 motorcycles, $15,000 in cash, three vehicles, and 1.1 kilograms of cocaine. Four arrests were made.<\/p>

Corbette revealed that 49 firearms and 289 rounds of ammunition have been seized at the country\u2019s port this year. These include three AR-15-style rifles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“These rifles are weapons of war and do not belong on the streets of Dominica,” he said.<\/p>

He also appealed to parents to urge children in possession of illegal firearms to surrender them to police, stressing the need to prioritise community safety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
