debt-to-GDP ratio has improved dramatically\u2014falling from 104% to approximately 62%\u2014the structure and terms of the nation\u2019s debt continue to pose a serious challenge.<\/p><div href=\"https:\/\/antiguanewsroom.com\/women-unite-in-antigua-to-push-for-greater-equality\/?swcfpc=1\">debt-to-GDP,<\/a><\/strong>\u201d the Prime Minister said. \u201cOur issue is the debt service, because most of our loans and advances are short to medium-term, and the interest rates are relatively high.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Browne, debt servicing currently consumes more than 20% of government revenue, leaving fewer resources for infrastructure and social development programmes.<\/p><div id=\"antig-1358938319\" class=\"antig-content_2 antig-entity-placement\"><a first five years, it would significantly reduce cash outflows,\u201d Browne said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThat means we can build more roads, repair public buildings, and do more in terms of improving infrastructure.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Prime Minister\u2019s remarks come at a time when the government is undertaking several major infrastructure projects, despite facing financial constraints. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He acknowledged that in some cases, road construction is underway \u201cwithout any real fiscal space.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The proposed bond would form part of a broader effort to create more sustainable public finances and to ensure that development goals are not sidelined by the burden of servicing short-term, high-interest debt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a
