SOURCE: CARIBBEAN NATIONAL WEEKLY-<\/strong> Antigua and Barbuda<\/a><\/strong> has officially formalized its participation in the CARICOM Arrest Warrant Treaty, with Foreign Affairs Minister Hon. E.P. Chet Greene depositing the instruments of accession on Tuesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Minister Greene submitted the formal documents during the second day of the 49th Regular Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of CARICOM, held in Montego Bay.<\/p>

The CARICOM Arrest Warrant Treaty is a landmark agreement among CARICOM member states aimed at facilitating swift and efficient cooperation in the surrender of individuals who are wanted for prosecution or to serve a sentence in another member state. <\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

By providing a standardized legal framework, the treaty eliminates many of the bureaucratic hurdles traditionally involved in extradition processes within the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Its primary purpose is to enhance regional security by ensuring that criminals cannot evade justice simply by crossing national borders within CARICOM.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

The treaty streamlines law enforcement collaboration, allowing member states to more easily apprehend and surrender offenders who commit crimes in one country and flee to another.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This treaty is particularly important for combating transnational crimes such as drug trafficking, human trafficking, organized crime, and other serious offenses that affect multiple countries within the Caribbean community.<\/p>
