With the opening set for May 1st<\/sup>2019, and hundreds of potential employees gathered at the Multi-purpose and Cultural exhibition center for the Royalton Job Fair, Minister of Tourism the Hon. Charles Fernandez made an official site visit to the property to see first hand what progress is being made.<\/p>

The Tourism Minister along with Permanent Secretary Walter Christopher and the newly appointed Chair of the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority Mrs. Lorraine Headley Raeburn met with Project Manager Mr. Jose Gonzalez today (Friday) to get an overview of the project thus far, complete with timelines and any foreseeable potential constraints which may hamper the projects\u2019 completion. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although this is the third such visit for the current year in as many weeks for the Minister, he is quite optimistic about the pace of the project.<\/p>

\"\"<\/div>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe are happy with the progress\nof the work so far\u2026 the work is very extensive, and I can see great effort being\nmade on their part to open the property on May 1st<\/sup>,\u201d said Minister\nFernandez.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

He continued that, \u201cwe are\nanxiously awaiting the opening which will see hundreds of Antiguans and\nBarbudans being permanently employed, with the recruitment process already\nunderway.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chairperson of the Antigua and\nBarbuda Tourism Authority Mrs. Lorraine Raeburn says she is quite excited about\nthe imminent addition to the Antiguan and Barbudan hotel product. <\/p>

\u201cDiversity is extremely important\nfor our tourism industry to thrive and the addition of the Royalton to our\nhotel sector will ensure increased bookings and a burst in economic activity\nonce these 288 rooms come on stream,\u201d remarked Mrs. Raeburn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Already the island has recorded a\nseven percent increase in tourist arrivals for the month of January this year\nover 2018 and the opening of the Royalton will contribute significantly to this\ngrowth.<\/p>

The Government of Antigua and\nBarbuda is optimistic that approximately 500 new rooms will be added to the\nislands room stock by the end of 2019.<\/p>
