Prime Minister Gaston Browne has fired back at political activist George Wehner, who launched a scathing attack on Minister of Works Maria Browne over ongoing repairs to the Sir Sidney Walling Highway.<\/p>

In a strongly worded Facebook post, Wehner branded Maria Browne the “worst Minister of Works ever”, accusing her of overseeing wasteful spending and poor-quality work. He pointed to the fact that sections of the recently resurfaced Sir Sidney Walling, Pares, Glanvilles, and Willikies highways are now being dug up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHaving recently expended tens of millions of tax dollars in the resurfacing of continuous portions of the Sir Sidney Walling, Pares, Glanvilles, and Willikies Highways; Minister Maria Browne is now ripping up main sections of the said highway from Willikies to St John\u2019s, thereby creating an uneven patchwork of the poorly constructed roadway,\u201d Wehner wrote.<\/p>

He went further to question whether this is the standard taxpayers should expect, stating, \u201cIs this the substandard level of work the taxpayers are to expect from Maria Browne for the $100,000,000.00 we are forced to pay?\u201d<\/p>

Responding on his own social media page, Prime Minister Browne dismissed the criticism and defended the Works Minister, calling Wehner a \u201cmoron.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt\u2019s our distinguished, highly performing Minister of Works, who got her engineer to assess the quality of the work; failure was determined and CO Williams was mandated to replace that section of the road at their cost,\u201d the Prime Minister said.<\/p>

He added, \u201cMinister Maria Browne for the win. Eat your heart out.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Prime Minister insisted the corrective works come at no additional cost to taxpayers, following quality assessments that identified faults with the previous roadworks.<\/p>

The construction company, CO Williams, has not yet issued a public statement regarding the matter. The Ministry of Works has also not confirmed how long the remedial work will take.<\/p>
