Success for National Soca and Calypso Adjudication Workshops<\/p>

The Ministry of Creative Industries, through the Department of Culture and the Antigua and Barbuda Festivals Commission, proudly reflects on the success of the recently held National Soca and Calypso Adjudication Workshops, hosted on Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd June 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The workshops brought together a dynamic mix of seasoned adjudicators, emerging talent, and artists, all committed to enhancing the standards of adjudication within Antigua and Barbuda\u2019s thriving music culture. Sessions were highly engaging and thought-provoking, diving deeply into the interpretation and application of adjudication criteria across both Soca and Calypso genres.<\/p>

These workshops are part of the Ministry\u2019s ongoing developmental program designed to empower creatives and cultural practitioners while positioning Antigua and Barbuda among the leading cultural destinations in the region.<\/p>

Workshop facilitator and calypso legend Sylvester \u201cKing Socrates\u201d Hodge applauded the depth of talent in the room and noted, \u201cAntigua and Barbuda stands as one of the leaders in Calypso and Soca. The level of artistry here is commendable and continues to evolve.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Director of Culture, Mr. Khan Cordice,<\/strong> echoed this sentiment, stating, \u201cThese sessions go beyond just improving the competitions they\u2019re about investing in the growth of both our artistes and our adjudicators. By doing so, we raise the national standard and strengthen our creative identity on an increasingly competitive global stage.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>

Hon. Daryll S. Matthew, Minister of Education, Sports and Creative Industries, <\/strong>stating, \u201cI applaud the Department of Culture and the Antigua and Barbuda Festivals Commission for their exemplary leadership in hosting these impactful adjudication workshops. Initiatives like these are essential to elevating the professionalism, transparency, and integrity of our Carnival competitions. They help strengthen public confidence in the adjudication process and ensure that our cultural showcase meets and exceeds international standards. As the nation gears up for Antigua Carnival 2025<\/strong>, the Antigua and Barbuda Festivals Commission remains steadfast in its mission to deliver a world-class cultural celebration. With enhanced adjudication standards and an invigorated artistic community, Antigua Carnival 2025 promises to be one of the most vibrant editions to date.<\/p>

The public is encouraged to come out and support the upcoming Quarterfinals of the INET Party Monarch Competition<\/strong>, taking place on July 1st and 2nd<\/strong>, followed by the Quarterfinals of the Calypso Monarch Competition<\/strong> on July 4th and 5th<\/strong>. Both events will be held at Jack Idle Park<\/strong> and promise high-energy performances with plenty of VIBES as the road to the monarchy begins.<\/p>
