The Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre (SLBMC) has been praised for its swift response in treating 37-year-old diver Akeam Bretney, who suffered from decompression sickness, or \u201cthe bends.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thanks to the hospital\u2019s hyperbaric chamber\u2014donated by the Calvin Ayre Foundation\u2014Bretney received immediate Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT), avoiding the need for overseas treatment. He has since made a full recovery.<\/p>
