Shell Beach Road to Be Rerouted to Make Way for Coastal Development, PM Confirms<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Antigua and Barbuda\u2019s Prime Minister Gaston Browne<\/a><\/strong> has announced that Shell Beach Road will be removed and rerouted to the rear of a new beachfront development project currently underway.<\/p>

The change is part of a broader government-backed initiative being managed by the National Asset Management Company (NAMCO), which is overseeing the transformation of the coastal area into a residential and tourism development.<\/p>

During his radio appearance, Browne explained that while land clearing and subdivision are already in progress, an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) will be conducted once the final plans are completed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThere will be an EIA, absolutely,\u201d Browne <\/a><\/strong>said, addressing anticipated concerns over the environmental consequences of the project.<\/p>

As part of the development, the existing Shell Beach Road, which currently runs along the seafront, will be decommissioned. A new road will be constructed behind the property to allow continued access to the area without running through the beachfront itself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cEven though there\u2019s only a road in front of it now, the road will go at the back of the property,\u201d Browne stated. \u201cThere will be no vehicular traffic at the front.\u201d<\/p>

The Prime Minister reassured the public that despite the rerouting, beach access would not be restricted. The road realignment, he said, is intended to enhance the layout of the development while preserving public rights of way.<\/p>
