Saint John\u2019s, Antigua, May 20th, 2025<\/strong> \u2013 The Red Lane Spa in Sandals Grande <\/a><\/strong>Antigua Resort and Spa shone last week as it honoured the efforts of healthcare professionals through a unique wellness activity for nurses at the Sir Lester Bird Medical Center (SLBMC).<\/p>

In line with their philosophy of “time, connection, and love,” the spa team, in full support of the resort’s executive management, organized an eight-hour massage event during Nurses Week 2025, which was celebrated under the theme “Our Nurses, Our Future \u2013 Caring for Nurses.”<\/em><\/p>

This is the third time that Sandals has hosted this appreciation event, with this year seeing close to 30 nurses enjoying their spa treatments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Each participating nurse received a relaxing massage, which provided a well-deserved moment of rest and recharge.<\/p>

“As nurses, we bend our backs a lot without even knowing it,” expressed Registered Nurse, Tiffinee Thomas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“So, to be able to experience this massage was a reset for myself and other nurses. Working long shifts and just the mechanical nature of the job itself can at times be a lot, so this was a well-deserved experience for which I am grateful to Sandals.”<\/p>

First-time attendee Shennel Bailey, a Neo-Natal Intensive Care Unit nurse, also felt the same, saying, “the therapist was so welcoming, so informative and put me at ease the entire time.<\/p>

I enjoyed every single moment of the session and will be back next year!”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The wellbeing of our healthcare professionals are of paramount importance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Registered Nurse Jenica Williams emphasized this by stating, “I think it’s very important for nurses to take the time out from their busy schedules, no matter which department you work in, and take care of themselves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nursing is a job that is very high stress; you have to put aside your own feelings and absorb the feelings of the patient, and if we are not replenishing the energy that we are expending, we are guaranteed to be left with nothing.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to the massage sessions, the resort gifted two evening dinner passes for two to Director of Nursing Jacqueline Jno-Baptiste as part of the hospital’s exciting prize package for their annual Nurse\u2019s Week recognition awards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Red Lane Spa Manager Chrystel Baker outlined her vision to expand this positive wellness partnership with a range of other treatments and services, including hand and foot massages, in the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“My team and Sandals <\/a><\/strong>are committed to promoting wellness and acknowledging the vital role of health professionals here in Antigua and Barbuda,” she expressed. “We stand ready to collaborate with the Sir Lester Bird Medical Center for this initiative in 2026 and making it bigger.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sandals’ dedication to honouring healthcare professionals has been a standard for the resort brand. In addition to various medical initiatives and celebratory events throughout the region, Sandals and Beaches Resorts across the Caribbean donated complimentary vacations to healthcare workers during the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Over 20 of such vacations were gifted in Antigua and Barbuda alone to frontline health care workers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
