The Ministry of Health today report<\/g>ed that laboratory testing at the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA) has confirmed Dengue Type 3 in Antigua and Barbuda.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

The total number of Dengue\ncases seen in Antigua and Barbuda between April 2018 and January 25 2019 is\ntwenty one of which six have been confirmed by CARPHA. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The public is reminded that\nDengue is a viral disease spread by the Aedes Aegypti mosquito. Symptoms of\nDengue include, fever, headache rash,\nvomiting which could lead to dehydration, muscle pain, dark colour stool, bleeding from the nose and mouth\nand inability to adapt to bright lights. <\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Parents are reminded to pay\nkeen attention to babies who may become dehydrated and cry without tears and\nuse fewer diapers.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Any person who believes he or\nshe may be infected should NOT use Aspirin, Iburprofin or Advil and other\nnon-steroidal anti-inflammatory agents, but instead use other fever reducing\nagents such as Paracetamol, Panadol and Cetamol.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reducing the number of Dengue\ncases requires reducing the number of mosquitoes. The Vector Control Unit at\nthe Central Board of Health has intensified its mosquito reduction activities\nthrough increased inspections to identify and destroy mosquito breeding sites\nand increased fogging operations that kill the adult mosquito. <\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

During the Ministry\u2019s weekly\nDengue Task Force meeting, Deputy Chief Health Inspector, Mr. Daryl Spencer\nindicated that the Unit achieved its goal of fogging the entire island over a\nnine-day period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr. Spencer added that in\naddition to driving with the fogging machines on trucks, members of the unit\nnow walk and fog, targeting key areas where mosquito hide such as underneath\nhouses, in tires and in gutters. <\/p>

The Central Board of Health\u2019s\nweekly fogging schedule can be viewed on Ministry of Health, Wellness and the\nEnvironment\u2019s Facebook page. The general public is requested to assist in\nreducing the mosquito population by cleaning their surroundings and destroying\nmosquito breeding sites in and around their homes. <\/p>
