Minister of Agriculture Dean Jonas has underscored the importance of the Homes, Families and<\/g> Garden Festival to the overall growth of the Agriculture sector and the aesthetics of communities across Antigua and Barbuda.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

He made the\npoint in an interview last night (Thurs) while attending the Awards and Prize\nGiving Ceremony for the event which was hosted by the Community Development\nDivision within the Ministry of Social Transformation, Human Resource\nDevelopment, Youth and Gender Affairs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWell the\ngarden festival is very, very important to the Ministry of Agriculture; this is\nalso a beautification exercise using plants to beautify our country; flowers\nand flowering plants. This is my first time attending and this is something I\nwould like the Ministry of Agriculture to continue to support fully to ensure\nthat we beautify our country and not just our homes but our community on a\nwhole, so we fully support this programme,\u201d the Agriculture Minister remarked.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Although\nthis has already started based on the awards that were presented at last\nnight\u2019s function, Minister Jonas said that he would still like to see more\ninvolvement from a community level to include schools, churches, sporting\ngroups and community clubs.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThey all\nneed to get more involved in this; it\u2019s a great way to not only feed ourselves\nand our families but it is also a way to beautify Antigua and Barbuda to make\nit more attractive for us who live here every day.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Larry Francis\nof Indies Greens was the overall winner in the Business Category of the Homes,\nFamilies and Garden Festival competition. Minster Jonas was selected to present\nhim with his award.  The overall winner\nof the festival went to a couple, Mr. and Mrs.  Curtis Thomas, to whom Governor General Sir\nRodney made the presentation of award.<\/p>

Both groups\nwere elated on their achievements and had some advice for farmers or persons\ninterested in getting involved in backyard gardening.<\/p>\n
