The WOTA Unit, which was developed by a Japanese water-tech company, WOTA CORP., is poised to put a dent in the water challenges that these and other homeowners face.<\/p>

Through innovative technology, the systems are able to regenerate up to 95% of greywater from a household into potable water. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Simply put: the majority of water used in a household, except the blackwater from toilets, passes through the system and comes out as a quality that is pure enough for household activities such as washing, showering, laundry, cleaning and even cooking.<\/p>

1. Clean Water<\/p>

Moreover, by adopting the system, homeowners can downsize their water storage\u2014for example, replacing a large cistern with an 800-gallon tank\u2014thereby reducing initial costs associated with water storage infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3. Smart Maintenance<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Homeowners can check available water levels and receive maintenance notifications through the dedicated app. Managing their daily water supply has never been easier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

4. Zero Wastewater Runoff<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The system contributes to the improvement of homeowners\u2019 surrounding living environment by collecting and treating all greywater on-site. Furthermore, the system helps prevent pollution of aquifers, waterways, and oceans, preserving delicate ecosystems and supporting sustainable living.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe are elated to implement this innovative technology in Antigua and Barbuda,\u201d said Ryo Yamada, Global External Affairs Department Manager and co-founder at WOTA CORP. \u201cWe anticipate that installations at the respective homes will begin, in earnest, next year.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

WOTA CORP. has been around in Antigua and Barbuda since 2022, after having met with the Minister of Health, Wellness and the Environment Molwyn Joseph at the UN Climate Change Conference, COP 26, in Glasgow in 2021. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The company\u2019s presence at COP 26 came as a result of its selection as a finalist for the EarthShot Prize – an environmental award established by Prince William, the current Prince of Wales (formerly Duke of Cambridge), and the Royal Foundation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From its time in Antigua, WOTA CORP. has signed two Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) with the Government of Antigua and Barbuda to test the technology to help address the country\u2019s water challenges. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since then, the company remains resolute in its drive in Antigua and Barbuda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Three locations were selected for the pilot testing of the WOTA Unit, with two of them being a house developed by Central Housing and Planning Authority (CHAPA) (in St. Phillips, since December 2024) and the National Housing Development and Urban Renewal Company (NHDURC) (in Paynters, since November 2024) to validate the effectiveness under the actual living conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The results of this pilot testing have been quite promising, showing the greywater recycling rate at around 95% and water quality in compliance with the drinking water standards tested by the external third parties. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the homeowners participating in this pilot testing, Mr. Trevor Watkins, said, \u201cSince the system is on, I have never run out of water – we can use a lot of water and take a long shower.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In March of this year, WOTA CORP. conducted market research locally. The company worked in collaboration with the CHAPA and the NHDURC to conduct one-on-one interviews with 35 current and prospective homeowners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The participants were interviewed at the company\u2019s Friar\u2019s Hill Showroom, where they were given a demo of the system and were then engaged in a discussion about their current water usage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThese interviews that we conducted during our market research here in Antigua proved to be very fruitful,\u201d Yamada said. \u201cWe were able to gather crucial data on the specific water challenges in various communities.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe were encouraged by the results that all of the prospective homeowners coming to the interview expressed their interest in installing the WOTA Unit in their new homes, with over 80% of them saying they would strongly consider it,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following the market research, WOTA CORP. will begin conducting product demonstrations in May for interested homeowners to provide further insight into the overall operation and function of the WOTA Unit in order to consider incorporating it into their housing plan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
