Antigua Sees Wettest April in Over a Decade Amid Climate Uncertainty<\/strong><\/p>

According to climatologist Dale Destin, Antigua recorded its wettest April since 2013, with 127.5 mm (5.02 in) of rainfall\u201466% above the long-term average\u2014making it one of the top 10 wettest Aprils on record for parts of the island.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The unusually high rainfall came during what is typically the driest part of the year, capping a damp start to 2025. January through April ranks as the 10th wettest such period on record and the wettest since 2010.<\/p>

Despite the wet trend, long-term forecasts offer no clear guidance. With the El Ni\u00f1o\u2013Southern Oscillation (ENSO) in a neutral state and Atlantic sea surface temperatures cooling, experts say the rainfall outlook is uncertain\u2014each outcome (above, near, or below-normal rainfall) is equally likely.<\/p>

Potworks Dam remains critically low despite the rains, underscoring the ongoing need for conservation. So far, the dry season (January\u2013June) has already delivered 216.4 mm (8.52 in) of rain, putting the island on pace to meet or slightly exceed average totals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Regionally, rainfall has hovered around average, though much of the Caribbean is expected to see near or below-normal rainfall in the coming months.<\/p>
