The Ministry of Health and the Environment is report<\/g>ing an additional five suspected cases of Dengue in Antigua and Barbuda. <\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Of the five new suspected cases,\nthere are three males and 2 females who reside in the English Harbour,\nBelleview, Pares, All Saints and All\nSaints Road between the ages of 7 and 58.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Three of the patients were\nadmitted to the paediatric unit at the\nMount St. John\u2019s Medical Center.  <\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

These additional cases bring\nthe total number of suspected cases between April 2018 and January 18, 2019, to fifteen.  Only two of the cases have been confirmed. <\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

This information was released\nduring a meeting of the newly created  Dengue Task Force.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Task Force comprises of\nkey medical professionals from within the Ministry and the Mount St. John\u2019s\nMedical Centre. <\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

It also includes the Barbuda\nCouncil,  the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority and the Antigua\nBarbuda Red Cross.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Director of Pharmaceutical\nServices, Alfred Athill confirmed to the team that a number of rapid dengue\ntest kits will be arriving on the island\nwithin 24 hours. <\/p>

Meanwhile, the Central Board\nof Health has increased the number of inspections being carried out by the\nVector Control Unit throughout the various communities.  They have also increased their fogging\noperations as well as its education campaign to identify mosquito breeding. <\/p>

Although Antigua and Barbuda is NOT experiencing an outbreak, the Ministry\nwill continue to do all that is within its power to mitigate the threat of the Aedes\nAegypti mosquito.<\/p>\n
