When\nDonavan resident, Calvin \u2018Burger\u2019 James\n53, <\/strong>became a fugitive from justice, it was not for reasons of his exploits\nof a specially developed, but skillful sleight of hands. Such skillfulness has\nseen the wallets of many innocent participants, deceptively lured into playing\na virtually controlled and unwinnable game of chance. Those that had\nparticipated had often come to the realization that they had done so\nperilously. With relative ease and dexterity, the game of chance was performed\nwith \u2018…one coin, manipulated under three bottle caps in full public view or\ninterchangeably, with three playing cards skillfully, but deceptively shifted\nwith almost lightning speed, creating illusions on players\u2019 mind as seen\nthrough the eyes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

WEDGE OF FEAR<\/strong><\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Mysticism\nhas always been part of \u2018Burger\u2019s\u2019 forte, mastered over 30 years. In spite of\nstreaks of losing, controllably, he allowed for marginal winnings. This was\nobjectively and cleverly done, in appeasing confused minds, yet geared toward\ninfluencing continuing play by unsuspecting gamesters. In other non-gaming\nactivities, confidential discussions suggested that \u2018Burger\u2019 had driven a \u2018…Wedge of Fear\u2019<\/strong> between a number of\npeople and law enforcement. With a raucous tone of voice and whatever else he\nmay have brandished, in the thoughts and hearts of many, exists a reign of\nterror. That appeared to have been \u2018Burger\u2019s philosophy. He appeared imposing\nas he may have been demanding. To a distraught man, adversaries shall be wary\nof his next move. This was often surreptitiously done.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

PERSPECTIVE          <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This\ncommentary comprehensively looks at some intriguing and interesting\ndevelopments surrounding the welcomed capture of one of the nation\u2019s most\ndangerous criminals. Though his capture was necessary in making him amenable to\njustice, how and by whom the evasive fugitive was captured, bears no\nsignificant evidential value to the criminal acts allegedly committed at\nDonavan [October 5, 2018]. When he appears at the Bar for trial, it would have\nbeen on serious indictments by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP). He\ncould never be indicted for running and hiding from law enforcement. He stands\naccused of \u2018…Shooting and murdering\ntwo females<\/strong> \u2018…niece Tahisha Thomas\nand Sanchezca Charles <\/strong>and attempted\nto kill nephew Laurence James\u2019 <\/strong>[ANR: October 5, 2018]. <\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

CONTEMPTIBLE\nINJUSTICE<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ineta\nLiburd may have blamed her daughter Tahisha Thomas then 27, tragic death,\npartially on her uncle\u2019s wrath and the inordinate delay in putting him on Jury\ntrial. This was more than a grim reminder of the \u2018…vicious Taser and brutal\ncutlass attack on the deceased and herself that had left them seriously\nwounded, sending them for medically institutionalized care at the Mount St.\nJohn Medical Center (MSJMC) [May 28, 2015: OMG: June 3, 2015]. Contending with\ngrief for a fatally wounded daughter and hiding from the threat of death, she\nbecame mortally afraid of her \u2018…Killer Burger\u2019 brother. Though he had enjoyed\nthe constitutional right to bail, many felt that the legal justice system had\nfailed mother and daughter with \u2018…Contemptible\nInjustice.\u2019<\/strong> <\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

COLD-BLOODED KILLER<\/strong><\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Incidentally,\nwhen \u2018Burger took flight from justice, this was reportedly due to a long\nrunning feud with Sister, Ineta Liburd. The feud resulted from inherited family\nland that firstly, had resulted in an alleged \u2018…Taser and vicious cutlass attack\u2019\non his sister and niece [May 28, 2015]. Seemingly, the feud continued unabated,\nprecipitated a \u2018…deadly gun attack.\u2019 This left two people dead and one\nseriously wounded and a sister drafted into \u2018…Witness Protection Programme,\u2019<\/strong> resulted in a change of\nresidency. The feud still remains unresolved, as has been trial on indictment\nfor the 2015 taser\/cutlass attack for which he was indicted. While on bail with\nrestrictive conditions, this may have provided opportunities for \u2018Burger\u2019 to\nhave developed himself into a Cold-blooded Killer. There was adequate time to\ndevise an implementable plan of attack.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

EXACTING VENGEANCE<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Given\ndevelopments that appeared to have impacted his life and disturbed his peace of\nmind, he would not only have been in conflict with scriptural teachings, but\nalso in conflict with his conscience. In heaven, there is no pain, suffering or\nsorrow; …no quarreling, tormenting and fighting.\u2019 It is a place of heavenly\npeace and sweet rest. On earth \u2018God\u2019 knows that there will be trials and\ntribulations. With many things to do, He said \u2018…My spirit will not always\ncontend with man\u2019 [Genesis 6: 3]. He knows that at any time His Spirit departs\nfrom man, feelings of intolerance would bring grief, even to siblings. He\nadmonishes, \u2018…Vengeance is Mine\u2019<\/strong>\n[Romans 12: 19]. Both appeared to have abandoned prayer for the spirit of\nreconciliation to enter into their hearts. It was also obvious that \u2018Burger\u2019\ncould not wait for the Lord God to come to \u2018…Exact\nVengeance\u2019<\/strong> on his sister Ineta Liburd that had provoked his wrath. Such\nconclusions were reached with the tragic shooting of the two young ladies and a\nmale [October 5, 2018].<\/p>\n\n\n\n

BURGER\u2019S VENGEANCE<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In\nspite of creating him in His image and likeness, \u2018…God is not Burger and Burger is not God.\u2019<\/strong> Therefore, deviating\nfrom God\u2019s commandments, \u2018…Thou shall not covet; and …Thou shall not kill,\u2019\nrather than praying to God to give him more wisdom and understanding, tolerance\nand restraint, Burger may have been asking the devil to influence God\u2019s spirit\ndepart from him. Anything to do with \u2018…Vengeance,\u2019<\/strong>\nGod were to be left completely out. He knows that God abhors evil and\nevil-doers. This was no time to take anything to Him in prayer. Given that\nwhich they had been fighting for, it is more likely that God may have been\ninclined to send either himself or his sister or both of them to hell. Burger\nknows that God has implore those that love him to \u2018…Shun the very presence of\nevil\u2019 [Thessalonians 5: 22]. Evil appeared to have saturated his thoughts, a suggestion\nthat he would behave evil. Thus, he had completely ignored that which God has\nappointed unto Himself to perpetrate violence against his family. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

PILLARS OF DEATH<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Whether\nor not \u2018Burger\u2019 could have avoided confrontation with one of his siblings is\nleft to speculation. Someone or something had provoked him to anger and his\nwrath descended with deadly consequences. It all began with the erection of \u2018…Two Wall Pillars\u2019<\/strong> on occupied\ninherited family land by sibling Ineta Liburd. They had reportedly made entry\nwith his visibly painted pink car convertible impassable. In futility, he\npleaded and quarreled for their removal. Seemingly, he concluded that plea and\nquarrel were useless. Very sadly, these were to become the \u2018…Pillars of Death.\u2019 <\/strong>With the situation causing mounting\nfrustration and no resolution in sight, reasonable inferences might be drawn\nthat \u2018Burger\u2019 went into pre-meditation. Unseen spirits may have told him,\nwhether or not prior funeral arrangements or subsequent arrangements were to be\nmade, some preparations would have to be made. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

NERVE-SHATTERING\nVENGEANCE<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Possessing\na stolen loaded .38 Special pistol, as ammunition would allow, \u2018Burger intended\nto reduce the number in his family. However, his primary targets were Sister\nIneta Liburd and niece Tahisha Thomas. Closure shall be brought to the\nlong-running land dispute. Irrespective of consequences, it was apparent that\nthe feud had to be settled. The victims had been identified and the \u2018…Die of Death\u2019 <\/strong>appeared to have been\ncast. With a loaded .38 Special handgun, \u2018…..breathing\nfire and brimstone\u2019<\/strong> [Bishop Charlesworth Browne], only shortage of\nammunition or immediate arrest may have been seen as obstacles.Seemingly in a vengeful state of mind,\nthough he had no control over nature, the double-murder accused may have been\njust anxious to see the light of day. With clear pre-meditated intent, he had\nbeen as deadly as a Texas cowboy. S<\/strong>ome\nthree years after the previous brutal cutlass attack, and shortly before Jury\ntrial, \u2018Burger\u2019 struck with \u2018…Nerve-Shattering\nVengeance.\u2019 <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

PENALTY OF DEATH<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Though\nnon-siblings were not targeted by the \u2018…Trigger-Crazy\nBurger,\u2019<\/strong> stray bullets often find the innocent. With such awareness,\nresidents in the immediate vicinity reportedly ran for cover. Even so, he\nseemingly had no intention in extending his wrath upon them. In Burger\u2019s\nconceptualized Kingdom, such association with his sister, including offspring\nand friends, constituted treason. Everyone and anyone who may have been seen as\nassociating with his sister appeared to have been deemed to have associated\nwith an enemy. Though it has nothing to do with allegiance and there was no\nclassification in family affairs as treason, an irate man often saw association\nwith persons adverse to the full enjoyment of life, as treason.<\/strong> In a realm, association with the King\u2019s or Queen\u2019s enemies\nbrings the treasonable penalty of death. Criminally, the element of this\noffence is \u2018…treachery. Seemingly moved by a heart filled with pent-up rage,\u2019\nhe had released it on his family with deadly consequences. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

WRATH<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

When \u2018…Burger\u2019s Wrath \u2018<\/strong>descended, not only had surviving family and\ncommunity members were sent into instant shock. A frantic sister went into\nhiding from a raging brother. This came in the early hours of Friday morning,\nOctober 5, 2018 the nation was jolted into shock and awe as tragedy struck. It\nwas due to an apparent irate \u2018Burger.\u2019 Reportedly, after rapidity of gunfire,\ntwo people were left dead, one instantly; the other subsequently. Fortuitously,\na male victim survived the onslaught to escape with a gunshot injury to the\nmouth. Instantaneously, somberness came upon the Donavan\u2019s community. The\nmalice was transferred and visited upon her daughter, a nephew and a female\nfamily friend. Both females were said to have been in their early twenty\u2019s. The\nbell had toll, leaving many to weep and wail, while the bereaved family\ncontended with mourning and grieving. Residents were left devastated by the\nunfolding events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

RECKLESS\nAND RUTHLESS<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

With\nthe shooting death of daughter Tahisha Thomas, this had renewed fear in her\nbereaved mother Ineta Liburd. This was as disquieting as it was frightening and\nunnerving. Among her immediate concerns were, (i) …Not knowing his whereabouts; and (ii) …Where to safely go to\nescape from a rampaging \u2018…Killer Brother.\u2019<\/strong> She knew that there had to be\na place to secretly hide. Consequently, this allowed for her to keep away from\nthe sights of the illegally-possessed firearm. The fugitive\u2019s sister knew that\nher brother, nicknamed \u2018Burger\u2019 was not the juicy ones sold at \u2018Burger King,\u2019\nand therefore wanted nothing name or no one call \u2018Burger. She also knew that\nthat he was \u2018…Reckless and Ruthless\u2019<\/strong>\nin speech and action. Believing that the worse of his wrath would mercilessly\ndescend upon her, she took evasive action. Stricken by un-imaginary fear, she\nwas subsequently inducted into the \u2018…Witness\nProtection Scheme.\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

RUNNING BURGER<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\nattacker had missed his main target sister Ineta Liburd, who fortuitously was\nabsent. Not likened to a mighty warrior, he reportedly removed himself from the\nscene. With specialized training and superior firepower, an anticipating\n\u2018Burger\u2019 took flight in an unattended motor vehicle, left with its engine\nrunning. Whether for mechanical and\/or other operable condition, abandoning\nsuch vehicle, he reportedly brandished a firearm at a motorist, thereby\nrelieving him of his motor vehicle. In incidents like these, public safety\ndictated a target measured police response. Foremost was apprehending \u2018Burger\u2019 before\nhe strikes at his sister.Then a\nmanhunt began to capture the \u2018…Running\nBurger\u2019<\/strong> had been launched.\u2019 The entire nation became frantic over the\ntragic developments and shared the pain and sorrow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

LOOSE FOR 90 DAYS<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\ndangerous killer was on the \u2018…Loose\nfor over 90 Days.\u2019<\/strong> Likened to the hymn, \u2018…Ninety and Nine,\u2019 the one that\nhad strayed away, had to be sought to be safely lay. With expectations of early\ncapture, public sentiments, some appearing somewhat barbaric, such were\nconsistent with public expectations of swift justice. For just over three\nmonths, while police were on the hunt for a \u2018…grill-free Burger,\u2019 <\/strong>citizens were on the lookout for sightings.\nWhile the public had been duly warned of danger, appeals had been made to alert\nthem for information leading to his arrest. They were advised not to engage him\nin any contact or to challenge him in any way. Law enforcement simply needed\npublic support and cooperation. In order to stimulate public interest, Law\nenforcement rightly offered a worthwhile motivator. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

INCENTIVISED\nREWARD                        <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

For\ninformation on sightings or whereabouts of the reportedly \u2018…Armed and Dangerous\u2019<\/strong> fugitive, though considered a meager sum,\nlaw enforcement offered members of the public an EC$25, 000 Reward<\/strong>. Then out of concern for public safety, noted\ncivic-minded businessman, the recently knighted Sir George Ryan KCN<\/strong> voluntarily gave assurances to law enforcement\nin providing some \u2018…financial assistance.\u2019 If it was expected that a matching\nsum would have been consider, they may have abused the concept called\n\u2018reasonableness\u2019 as to have been seen as extending their expectations. Universally,\nit has been the public that law enforcement agencies have been constantly\ncalling to provide informational assistance, as it affects crime and criminals.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

MOON AND LIGHT<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

There\nare some happenings that may appear stranger than fiction, but factually, with\nprima facie evidence, they are manifestly true. Man has come to accept that in\nstormy or inclement weather or to alert humans of nature\u2019s impending wrath,\nthere are usually, \u2019…Lightning and\nThunder.\u2019<\/strong> The former flashes, while the latter rolls. They were known to\nhave produced fear in humans.  As it\naffects productivity in the workplace, some workers produce and some do not.\nExtend to law enforcement, officers that are highly motivated and committed,\nare also highly productive. Then there are those that are marginally\nproductive. Then there are still others that are virtually \u2018…non-productive.\u2019\nThere might be a problem with the moon or with the way it shines to provide the\n\u2018…poor man\u2019s light.\u2019 Disguising a familiar police jargon, if someone was on\nthe \u2018…Moon\u2019<\/strong> and it was \u2018…Lighting,\u2019<\/strong> logic dictates that only\nthose occupying the earth could see the spectacle of an eclipse that brings\nupon earth darkness and then light. Only nature can deal with such phenomenon.\nConversely, as it affects a person\u2019s work attitude, only effective management\ncan deal with it. To be continued…<\/p>\n
