A 26-year-old man was given seven days to pay a fine for dangerous driving <\/a><\/strong>after he appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Dexter Wason in the St John\u2019s Magistrates\u2019 Court.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Vernons Estate resident pleaded guilty to the charge and was ordered to pay $500. <\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

However, if he fails to pay the money in a timely manner he will be jailed for 30 days.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Officers from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) were on duty on April 21 in an unmarked vehicle with flashing lights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While at the junction of Market and Redcliffe streets, they saw a vehicle travelling from the wrong way (north to south) on Market Street and then turning right onto Redcliffe Street.<\/p>

The officers pursued and caught up with him on Nevis Street. The father of one was asked why he chose to drive down Market Street and he replied, \u201cMy friend told me she was in trouble so I came to help her.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He was arrested, taken to the police station and charged with dangerous driving.<\/p>

The man told the court that he was at a club in the area when his female friend asked him to escort her to her vehicle. However, her ex-boyfriend came up to her and they became engaged in a dispute.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

He said that he left and while driving <\/a><\/strong>home the lady telephoned him and said that her ex was becoming abusive and she needed some help.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The man said he sensed that the woman could be physically hurt so he decided to turn down Market Street to get to the location faster.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When Magistrate Wason asked if he had explained the situation to the police, he said he attempted to do so but they would not listen to him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
