Cuban Medical Brigade Celebrates 25 Years of Service in Antigua and Barbuda<\/p>

ST. JOHN, Antigua and Barbuda \u2013 13th April 2025\u2026\u2026The Cuban Medical Brigade, which has provided hundreds of healthcare professionals to Antigua and Barbuda over the past 25 years, is celebrating a milestone anniversary in its contribution to the nation\u2019s healthcare system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To commemorate the occasion, a photographic exhibition was held at the Parliament Chambers. Among those in attendance were Governor <\/a>General Sir Rodney Williams, Prime Minister Hon. Gaston Browne, Health Minister Sir Molwyn Joseph, Opposition Leader Hon. Jamale Pringle, and Dr. Belle-Jarvis, Medical Director of the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre.<\/p>

In his remarks, Sir Rodney hailed the partnership as \u201c25 years of selfless service\u201d between Antigua and Barbuda and the Republic of Cuba. He described the exhibition not merely as a collection of images, but as \u201ca testament to resilience, solidarity, and humanity.\u201d He praised the Cuban healthcare professionals as heroes who, through disasters, pandemics, and everyday challenges, have consistently stood by the people of Antigua and Barbuda.<\/p>

Prime Minister Browne highlighted the Brigade\u2019s role as a cornerstone of the country\u2019s healthcare services. He noted that since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1994 under the leadership of the late Sir Lester Bird, Cuba has significantly contributed to national development\u2014not only in health but also in education and infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He emphasized Cuba\u2019s unwavering support, especially during times of crisis, calling the country a \u201creliable friend\u201d that has always shared generously, even when resources were scarce. The Prime Minister also addressed criticisms from abroad, reassuring the Cuban personnel that their work is appreciated and that Antigua and Barbuda does not participate in human trafficking, as alleged by some U.S. officials.<\/p>

Opposition Leader the Hon. Jamale Pringle echoed these sentiments, recognizing the Cuban doctors, nurses, and technicians for their life-saving work and the empathy with which they deliver care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Health Minister Sir Molwyn Joseph reflected on the Brigade\u2019s critical role during the COVID-19 pandemic, crediting them with helping maintain hope and stability in the nation\u2019s healthcare institutions. He also praised Cuba\u2019s unique position on the global stage as a country that selflessly deploys its medical professionals to assist others.<\/p>
