Healthcare Advances Continue, Cardiac Unit and Cancer Centre in the Works<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Prime Minister Gaston Browne has announced a new wave of healthcare investments, including the establishment of a cardiac unit and the reopening of a better-equipped cancer centre, as part of his administration\u2019s push to make Antigua and Barbuda a regional leader in medical services.<\/strong><\/p>

Addressing a political rally on Friday night, Mr Browne highlighted recent medical milestones achieved locally and outlined plans to expand specialised healthcare services over the coming months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe are delivering first-class healthcare right here in Antigua,\u201d he said. \u201cJust this week, a friend of mine had a successful hip replacement surgery. We are also continuing with kidney transplants and are preparing to open a cardiac unit later this year.\u201d<\/p>

The Prime Minister confirmed that the Cancer Centre Eastern Caribbean, which had previously faced operational setbacks, is expected to reopen with enhanced capabilities.<\/p>

\u201cThe centre will be better equipped than before, offering a wider range of services,\u201d he said. \u201cThis will ensure that our people don\u2019t have to travel abroad for essential cancer care.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The upgrades are part of the government\u2019s broader strategy to reduce the reliance on overseas treatment and increase access to affordable, high-quality medical services at home.<\/p>

Mr Browne framed the developments as part of a decade-long effort to strengthen the country\u2019s health infrastructure. He said Antigua and Barbuda is now poised to offer some of the best medical services in the region, behind only larger Caribbean nations such as Trinidad and Jamaica.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe\u2019re not only building capacity\u2014we\u2019re changing lives,\u201d he told the crowd.<\/p>

The Prime Minister\u2019s remarks follow recent investments in healthcare facilities, staff training, and partnerships with international medical institutions. The government has also supported specialised surgeries and expanded dialysis and emergency services in recent years.<\/p>

Additional initiatives are expected in the coming months as part of the Ministry of Health\u2019s strategic plan. These include upgrades to community clinics, improved diagnostic services, and efforts to address chronic disease prevention and management.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr Browne reiterated his commitment to a healthcare system that reaches all citizens. \u201cWe are delivering better services for the poor and the vulnerable, not just the wealthy,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As the country emerges from years of pandemic-related disruption, the government hopes these healthcare investments will serve as a cornerstone of its legacy\u2014and a signal of its readiness to meet future public health challenges.<\/p>\n
