Health authorities are warning people dumping illegally on an eight acre<\/g> parcel of government land to immediately stop the practice.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

The illegal dumping of waste material in the area located opposite the Government\u2019s Motor Pool has been making rounds on social media with both the Government and residents being concerned about the damage caused to the environment as a result. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

When\nthe team visited the site, the entrance to the property was blocked by a bulldozer\nowned and operated by a private entity.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Minister of Health Molwyn Joseph is of the belief that the heavy duty equipment was placed there to ensure the businessman has control over who dumps on the site and not to actually put an end to the illegal dumping. <\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Officials say the three parcels of land being backfilled with waste material is not being leased or rented by any person.\u00a0 The last time a parcel of the land was leased was in 2010.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Joseph today instructed the police to warn the businessman allegedly responsible to not only cease and desist from the illegal practice but to have the bulldozer removed from the property.\u00a0<\/p>

“Failure to do so may result in confiscation of the equipment,” a statement from the ministry of health said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Minister\nJoseph also voiced his dissatisfaction with the lawlessness being demonstrated\nby the truck drivers who continue to offload their waste material at the site\nnoting that the ONLY legal dumpsite is the Cooks Landfill. <\/p>

Meanwhile, the Health Minister is hopeful that the new Litter\nControl and Prevention Bill 2018 will encourage persons to cease and desist\nfrom the illegal practice. <\/p>

He\nnoted that as it stands, the person who has been carrying out the illegal dumping\ncan only be fined $200 but the proposed legislation is expected to be a\ndeterrent with the possibility of being fined $5000. <\/p>\n
