Utilities Minister Melford Nicholas says the government is moving to modernise Antigua and Barbuda\u2019s water distribution system in response to ongoing shortages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking on Observer AM<\/em>, Nicholas revealed discussions are underway with a Trinidadian company to supply an automated system that would replace the current manual process of redirecting water across the country.<\/p>

He noted that technicians currently work overnight to physically turn valves, a method he described as inefficient. The new system, expected to be operational by year\u2019s end, will allow seamless, remote control of water flow.<\/p>

Nicholas also pointed to insufficient storage capacity as a major factor behind the recurring shortages, despite the expansion and upgrades of reverse osmosis plants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
