Booby Alley Project Progressing Rapidly Despite Early Opposition, PM Says<\/strong><\/p>

Prime Minister Gaston Browne says construction on the Booby Alley housing redevelopment is advancing steadily, with workers operating around the clock to complete the long-delayed project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking on Pointe FM\u2019s Browne and Browne Show<\/em> on Saturday, Mr Browne stated that more than 150 homes are expected to be completed by this time next year. He described the project\u2019s pace as \u201crelentless,\u201d noting that different crews have been working in shifts to ensure progress continues day and night.<\/p>

\"\"<\/div>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis is one of the most active construction sites on the island,\u201d the Prime Minister said. \u201cThey are working 24\/7, and it shows. You can see the boom cranes in the air and men walking along them \u2013 it\u2019s serious work being done.\u201d<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

The Booby Alley project, located in the Point area of St John\u2019s, had previously drawn criticism from opposition figures who claimed it was a \u201cland grab\u201d and accused the government of displacing residents for political and commercial purposes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr Browne rejected those accusations, saying the homes are being built for the people of the community and will provide long-term housing security.<\/p>

\u201cThe opposition said nothing would be built. They told the people it was a sham. Now they must be ashamed, because we are delivering,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The project is being funded with support from the People\u2019s Republic of China and forms part of the government\u2019s broader housing programme. Mr Browne said critics who once claimed the development would never happen should now acknowledge the reality on the ground.<\/p>
