Aaliyah Ramsey has publicly withdrawn an allegation made against Prime Minister Gaston Browne, clarifying that her original statement suggested unlawful conduct and may have caused reputational harm.<\/p>

In a post published on Facebook on Monday morning, Ramsey said her initial remarks, which referred to the Prime Minister in critical terms, had crossed a legal line.<\/p>

\u201cFollowing some reflection, and a crash course in how the rules of public discourse work when lawyers get involved, I now understand that my choice of words was inappropriate and potentially misleading,\u201d she wrote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ramsey acknowledged that her statement could have been defamatory under Antigua and Barbuda<\/a><\/strong>\u2019s Defamation Act 2015<\/strong>, and issued a formal retraction in keeping with the requirements of the law.<\/p>

\u201cWhile I stand by my right to express opinions as a citizen, particularly on matters involving public interest, I also recognise the legal boundary between personal expression and defamation,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She added that she chose to publish the clarification \u201cin the same space and tone as the original post,\u201d explaining that \u201cpublic statements deserve public corrections.\u201d<\/p>

In response, Prime Minister Browne accepted the apology and confirmed he would halt legal action.<\/p>

\u201cApology accepted,\u201d he said. \u201cI will cancel the instructions given yesterday to my attorney, Jarid Hewlett, to pursue for defamation.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
