Students Use Art to Tackle Global Challenges in National IP Day Competition<\/strong><\/p>

Young artists from across Antigua and Barbuda were celebrated on Friday for their creative contributions to a national art competition marking World Intellectual Property Day 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hosted by the Antigua and Barbuda Intellectual Property and Commerce Office (ABIPCO), the prize-giving ceremony took place at the John St. Luce Conference and Financial Centre, honouring winners of the primary and secondary school art competition. This year\u2019s theme, \u201cIP and the SDGs: Building our common future with innovation and creativity,\u201d invited students to design a superhero overcoming a challenge linked to a United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG).<\/p>

The competition formed part of a broader global initiative coordinated by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) to promote innovation and intellectual property as tools for sustainable development.<\/p>

Liya Goodwin of Post Millennial Academy’s Art<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Liya Goodwin of Post Millennial Academy emerged as the primary school category winner, while her schoolmate Jenae Lewis and Liberta Primary\u2019s Olivia Michael placed second and third respectively. In the secondary division, all top spots went to Christ the King High School students, with Summer Goodwin securing first place, followed by Shania McKenzie and Gabrielle Grant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Honourable mentions were awarded to Anushree Satpute of Island Academy International, Azriel Morris, and Sierra Grant, both of Christ the King High School.<\/p>

As part of the ceremony, ABIPCO introduced the Carden Conliffe Clarke Intellectual Property Award<\/em>, named in honour of the late former Deputy Registrar who played a key role in advancing the competition. The first-place winners were named inaugural recipients of this award.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Addressing the gathering, ABIPCO Registrar Ricki Camacho praised the students\u2019 creativity and called on stakeholders to continue nurturing young talent. \u201cThese artworks not only reflect imagination but also demonstrate an understanding of complex global issues,\u201d she said.<\/p>

Representatives from ACB Caribbean, ACT, and AllMart presented prizes, while the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority and the United Nations Resident Coordinator Office were acknowledged for their support.<\/p>

A short video montage of the submissions was shown during the event, offering attendees a closer look at how students interpreted the intersection of innovation, creativity, and the global goals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
