Council Candidate Campaigns on Education, Equality, and Empowerment<\/strong><\/p>

With the Barbuda Council elections<\/a> just days away, returning candidate Jacqueline Frank<\/a> is stepping into the spotlight with a clear message rooted in education, equality, and empowerment. A former council member and long-time advocate for the island\u2019s youth, Frank is once again offering herself for service under the banner of the Barbuda People\u2019s Movement<\/a> (BPM).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Frank, who was born in Barbuda<\/a> but raised in the United Kingdom, brings a unique perspective shaped by her overseas education and professional background in special education needs. Her experiences abroad\u2014and her decision to return home\u2014have fueled a deep commitment to building a future that works for all Barbudans.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI didn\u2019t come back to settle for anything less than progress for Barbuda<\/a>,\u201d Frank said during a roundtable discussion streamed live from Quadrant. \u201cI came home to work, to contribute, and to help guide the next generation. Education is where we must start.\u201d<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Frank\u2019s passion for education is personal. After completing her studies in the UK, she sought opportunities to work in Barbuda but was told her paperwork had mysteriously disappeared. Rather than wait, she turned to public service, successfully winning a seat on the Council in 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now seeking re-election, she\u2019s advocating for stronger educational infrastructure, better support for children with special needs, and broader access to training and opportunities for young people.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

But Frank\u2019s platform extends beyond the classroom. As a woman in politics, she has faced questions about her identity and legitimacy\u2014despite being born on the island. \u201cOne of the first challenges I faced was people questioning whether I was truly Barbudan because of my accent,\u201d she said. \u201cBut I know where I come from, and I carry that proudly.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She believes women bring a vital and often overlooked perspective to political decision-making. \u201cWe are deeply connected to our families and our communities. We push hard because we\u2019re thinking about our children, our grandchildren, and the future they deserve,\u201d Frank said.<\/p>

Campaigning alongside her fellow BPM candidates, Frank has met with residents across political lines. \u201cWe take no prisoners,\u201d she said with a smile. \u201cWe go to every gate. It doesn\u2019t matter if you\u2019re BPM or Labour\u2014we speak to everyone because this election is about more than party politics. It\u2019s about land, legacy, and leadership.\u201d<\/p>

She\u2019s particularly concerned with the direction in which the central government is trying to steer Barbuda, especially in terms of land use and development. \u201cPeople here understand what\u2019s at stake. They know that once we lose our land and our autonomy, we can\u2019t get it back. That\u2019s why this election matters.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Frank is confident that her record and her resolve will resonate with voters. \u201cI\u2019m ready to continue the work,\u201d she said. \u201cBarbudans deserve a future shaped by their own hands\u2014not by policies imposed from outside.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As the election approaches, Frank is one of five BPM candidates hoping to secure a mandate from the people\u2014a mandate rooted in resistance, resilience, and a renewed commitment to Barbuda\u2019s future.<\/p>\n
