It was a\ntime of celebration for persons living with disabilities on Monday 17th<\/sup>\nDecember 2018 as family and friends of the differently abled gathered at the Sir\nVivian Richards Stadium. The event began at 1:00 pm and concluded at 5:30 pm.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Over seventy\npersons inclusive of adults and children were in attendance to witness the brief\nceremony and award-giving event.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Recipients\nof the awards included trainees and employees of the National Vocational and\nRehabilitation Centre for Persons with Disabilities as well as parents who have\nbeen dedicated contributors and supports to the Centre\u2019s programmes for many\nyears.<\/p>

Awards for\ndedicated service were presented to trainees\\ workers: Sylvester Michael, June\nDubery, Devon Joseph. Francine Smith, Daniele Johnson, Wendell Haywood, and Omaurie\nCarlton.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Four parents\nwere also awarded for their services: Merle Havercombe, Janice Samuel,\nChristine Anthony, and Lillian Graham.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Presenting\nawards and speaking on behalf of the Ministry of Health, Wellness and the\nEnvironment was Susan Lake, acting Assistant Secretary of Health Institutions.<\/p>

\u201cSeason\u2019s\ngreetings to all of you on behalf of the Minister of Health as well as the entire\nMinistry,\u201d said Ms. Lake. \u201cWe love all of you and I want you to know that every one of us is\ndisabled in some form but do not let that\nstop you, continue to show love and we are going to empower you.  Have a blessed Christmas all of you,\u201d she\nadded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The National\nVocational and Rehabilitation Centre for Persons with Disabilities is a\ngovernment entity with responsibility for those living with disabilities\nthroughout Antigua and Barbuda. The Centre also acts as a trainee facility.<\/p>

Presently\nthere are persons training in handicraft,\npainting as well as agriculture but other initiatives such as information\ntechnology, carpentry, and masonry are\nslated to begin sometime during the upcoming year 2019.  <\/p>
