SOURCE: NEWS SOURCE-<\/strong>Popular Guyanese activist, Melissa Atwell aka \u201cMelly Mel\u201d was taken into custody and questioned by US Homeland Security agents this morning and is said to be cooperating fully with the agents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

News Source understands that the agents accompanied Atwell from her home to one of their New York offices where, according to sources, she has been questioned about her online activism, complaints against her by the Government of Guyana and other related issues.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

There are reports that her New York based Attorneys are aware of the questioning and have been offering their legal advice, as she is also being supported by a number of other officials in the New York area.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Sources close to Atwell told News Source this morning that \u201cshe will be just fine\u201d, and that she has been cooperating with the US authorities and providing them with information about her social media activism and her statements that might have irked the Guyana Government, triggering the alleged complaint against her.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Government of Guyana has accused Atwell of a number of CyberCrimes related to her publishing of alleged acts of corruption involving several Guyanese Government officials.<\/p>

The activist had repeatedly complained about her and her family being targeted by the Guyana Government over her criticism of the Government and her social media activism. She recently filed a Police complaint in New York against social media commentator and Guyana Government contractor, Mikhail \u201cGuyanese Critic\u201d Rodrigues, accusing him of harassment after he allegedly published her home address across his social media platform.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In November 2024, Guyana\u2019s Attorney General, Anil Nandlall, filed a $100 Million lawsuit against Atwell in the local Courts over a series of posts that she allegedly made against him, which he said were \u201cpatently fabricated, concocted and malicious\u201d.<\/p>

The Attorney General had also announced at the time that the Government would continue to pursue legal action both locally and internationally against the social media activist.<\/p>
