St John\u2019s, Antigua \u2013<\/strong> Authorities in Antigua and Barbuda<\/strong> are considering the use of CAP-CAP<\/a><\/strong>, an emergency mobile alert system, to quickly disseminate information about missing persons<\/strong>, particularly in urgent cases like the recent abduction of nine-year-old Chantel Crump<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During a press conference on Thursday<\/strong>, a journalist raised the question of whether the Common Alerting Protocol (CAP)<\/strong> system\u2014currently used for disasters like tsunamis and earthquakes\u2014could be activated to issue AMBER-style alerts<\/strong> when a child goes missing.<\/p>

Acting Commissioner of Police Everton Jeffers<\/strong> responded positively, stating that the police would be open to using any available tool<\/strong> that could assist in locating missing persons.<\/p>

\u201cIf it is available and can help us solve crimes, we will use it,\u201d Jeffers said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The CAP-CAP<\/a> system<\/strong> allows emergency alerts to be sent directly to mobile phones, ensuring that critical information reaches a wide audience instantly<\/strong>. While primarily used for natural disasters<\/strong>, the technology could be adapted to notify the public about abductions and missing persons cases<\/strong>, increasing the chances of a swift recovery.<\/p>

A local emergency official confirmed that the system could be used for such alerts<\/strong>, but it has not yet been activated for missing persons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The discussion comes amid concerns about the rising number of missing persons cases<\/strong>, including the recent disappearance of Chantel Crump<\/strong>, who was last seen entering a vehicle on her way home from school on Wednesday afternoon<\/strong>.<\/p>
