Noise Pollution Expected as Piling Work Begins for New Cruise Terminal<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Residents near the Heritage Quay<\/strong> area have been advised to expect increased noise levels<\/strong> as construction on the new cruise terminal at the Fifth Berth<\/strong> enters its piling phase<\/strong>.<\/p>

Speaking on The Browne and Browne Show<\/em> on Pointe FM, Gasper George, General Manager of Global Ports Holding Antigua<\/strong>, confirmed that a 30-foot piling rig<\/strong> has arrived in Antigua and is set to begin operations from March 17<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIn the next week, the construction team will commence the piling of 270 piles<\/strong>, each being driven about 10 meters deep<\/strong> into the ground,\u201d Mr George said. \u201cOne can anticipate a bit of noise and some disruptions<\/strong> to the usual comfort level.\u201d<\/p>

The piling phase<\/strong> is expected to take between 60 and 90 days<\/strong>, with work continuing through mid-year<\/strong>.<\/p>

Prime Minister Gaston Browne<\/strong> acknowledged the potential impact on nearby communities, particularly in Point and Villa<\/strong>, and emphasized the importance of keeping residents informed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI think one of the reasons Mr George is here today is to alert residents about the noise pollution<\/strong> they may experience,\u201d Mr Browne said. \u201cThe people of Point and Villa are closest to the construction site<\/strong>, so it\u2019s important to engage them directly.\u201d<\/p>

To address community concerns, town hall meetings<\/strong> will be held in the coming weeks to provide residents with detailed project timelines<\/strong> and mitigation measures<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOur Communications and Marketing team will be engaging residents to ensure they are aware of what\u2019s happening, how long it will last, and what steps are being taken to minimize disruptions<\/strong>,\u201d Mr George said.<\/p>

The construction team has also pledged to expedite the piling work<\/strong> to reduce prolonged noise exposure<\/strong> for those living and working nearby.<\/p>

Despite the temporary inconvenience, the government has assured residents that the project will bring long-term economic benefits<\/strong>, including new jobs and business opportunities<\/strong> for locals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe Fifth Berth project will significantly improve our cruise tourism product<\/strong>,\u201d Mr George said. \u201cOnce completed, it will enhance Antigua\u2019s standing as a major cruise destination.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The terminal is scheduled for completion by October 202<\/strong>5, with the full upland development project set to finish by June 2026<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
