The government of Antigua and Barbuda<\/a><\/strong><\/em> has engaged a Dutch dredging firm<\/em> to assist Blue Ocean<\/em> in accelerating the St. John\u2019s Harbour dredging project. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Antigua<\/a><\/strong> Port Authority<\/em> will finance the harbour dredging, while the Antigua Public Utilities Authority (APUA)<\/em> is responsible for funding similar work at North Sound<\/em>.<\/p>

At the Post-Cabinet Press Briefing, Chief of Staff Lionel Hurst<\/em> confirmed the partnership, stating that Dutch dredging equipment is being transported to Antigua<\/em> to begin work. <\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe firm is moving machinery, possibly from St. Maarten or Guadeloupe<\/em>, rather than from the Netherlands,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The dredging at St. John\u2019s Harbour<\/em> is essential for accommodating larger vessels, while the work at North Sound<\/em> is linked to APUA\u2019s *liquefied natural gas (LNG) power plant, which requires deeper waters to allow for *safe docking of supply ships<\/em>.<\/p>

Hurst explained that while Blue Ocean holds the primary contract, the Dutch firm will act as a subcontractor<\/em>. \u201cPayments will be made to Blue Ocean, which will, in turn, compensate the Dutch dredging company,\u201d he clarified.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The government expects the project to be completed *within the planned timeframe, ensuring that both commercial and energy-related shipping operations<\/em> benefit from the improvements.<\/p>
