Antigua and Barbuda Government Pushes Forward with Boys Training School Plans Amid Delay<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The government of Antigua and Barbuda<\/strong> maintains that the former Boys Training School<\/strong> is ready for use, despite an attempted break-in<\/strong> at the facility earlier this week. Officials have clarified that while the school is operational, legal adjustments are required before the assigned boys can be placed there.<\/p>

Speaking at the Post-Cabinet Press Briefing<\/strong>, Chief of Staff Lionel Hurst<\/strong> explained that the delay stems from court orders that need to be amended. \u201cThere are eight boys who are supposed to be at the facility. One is being held at Her Majesty\u2019s Prison, while the other seven were assigned by the magistrate to various homes,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hurst noted that before the transfer can take place, the government must return to the magistrate<\/strong> to secure a revised order. \u201cTo bring the boys to the school, we\u2019ve got to go back to the magistrate to get an order that corrects or amends the first order,\u201d he stated.<\/p>

The facility was reopened earlier this week<\/strong> as part of efforts to provide structured rehabilitation for young offenders. However, reports of an attempted unauthorized entry<\/strong> emerged soon after. Authorities have confirmed that no injuries were reported and nothing was stolen<\/strong> during the incident.<\/p>

Despite the delay, officials insist that the facility remains fully prepared. \u201cIt is open and functioning,\u201d Hurst said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
