POINTE XPRESS- VCBIA Unveils New Rental Car<\/a> Facility<\/strong><\/p>

POINTE XPRESS–<\/strong>The Airport Authority has completed a $300,000 refurbishment and repurposing of a facility that previously housed counters for regional airlines. This new space, located beside the eastern end of the Old Terminal Building, is set to accommodate up to 15 rental car<\/a> companies. Tourism Minister Charles Fernandez expressed his satisfaction with the project, particularly highlighting that all the businesses operating in the new facility are locally owned, even though some are affiliated with renowned franchises.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fernandez noted that the demand for rental vehicles is on the rise as tourist arrivals to Antigua and Barbuda continue to increase, reflecting a growing trend. “Car<\/a> rental is a booming industry, and its growth mirrors evolving travel preferences. More visitors are opting to explore the island independently. Antigua’s reputation as a safe, welcoming destination has made this a popular choice. We\u2019re seeing fewer tourists stay solely within resort properties. Instead, there is a noticeable rise in Airbnb accommodations, private villas, and boutique stays, which are helping to diversify our tourism sector beyond the traditional all-inclusive model,” he remarked.<\/p>

The minister also pointed out a significant development: the agreement for Google Maps to include Antigua and Barbuda in its network, making navigation easier for visitors.<\/p>

ABAA Chairman, Rolston Potter, lauded the initiative as a ‘bold’ move, crediting the collaboration between the authority and car rental operators. “This project has been a long time coming. Moving from a curbside operation, which was both unattractive and hazardous, to a modern, aesthetically pleasing rental car facility is a major milestone,” he stated. Potter emphasized that ABAA’s core mission is to foster sustainable employment and wealth creation for nationals, calling the project a perfect example of successful collaboration between ABIA and the car rental industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wendy Williams, the new CEO of ABAA, welcomed the facility’s opening, noting that it meets the international standards required for customer safety and comfort. “Car rentals provide unmatched flexibility and convenience for visitors. Once you rent a car<\/a>, you control your journey, giving you the freedom to stop wherever and whenever you like to maximize your time exploring the island,” she said.<\/p>
