Taxi operators received a low number of fares over the weekend despite the presence of three ships at the Heritage Quay Port and the influx of shoppers due to the ABST relief weekend.<\/p>

The St. John\u2019s Taxi Association is based at the Heritage and Redcliffe Quays, and PRO of the Association Keithroy Lake says that weekend was not a busy one for the taxi operators.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThere were three big ships in town and only four persons out of thirty something of us on my line that got work yesterday, for example,\u201d said Lake. <\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Despite the three ships in habour, Lake says that this did not necessarily translate into tourists taking tours. He further explained that good fare days are dependent on a number of factors and not just the number of people that are seen in the shopping areas.<\/p>

\u201cYou may see a lot of ships coming into the ports,\u201d explained the PRO.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBut it all depends on the type of ships, where they are coming from, which call are you\u2026 whether the first, second, third or even the last call. If you\u2019re the last call, you know most of the people\u2019s money are already finished, so they just come off the ships and just walk around and don\u2019t spend any money.\u201d <\/p>

He went on to say that the operators also did not benefit from the increased number of local foot traffic due to the ABST relief weekend promotion in part because locals have \u201cother means\u201d to get their way around the city. <\/p>\n
