The Antigua and Barbuda<\/a><\/strong> Defence Force (ABDF) has launched a major search and rescue operation to locate the missing fishing vessel FV Moya and its three crew members. The vessel was due to return to port on Saturday, 22 February 2025, but has not been seen since.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the ABDF, FV Moya, a 30-foot vessel, departed Market Wharf on Friday, 21 February at around 13:00 local time. It was expected back by 08:00 the following morning. However, contact was lost, and by 14:00 on Saturday, the Coast Guard was informed of its absence.<\/p>

Challenging sea conditions, including a high surf advisory that has been in effect for several days, are believed to have complicated the vessel\u2019s journey.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Authorities have now escalated the case to a distress phase. The Coast Guard has mobilised multiple agencies, including the ABDF Air Wing, the Regional Security System (RSS), the Antigua Fisheries Department, and the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) in Fort-de-France, Martinique. Additional support has come from the St. Kitts and Nevis Coast Guard and the Montserrat Marine Police Unit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since Saturday, air and sea patrols have been conducted, with searches intensifying on Monday, 24 February. The coordinated effort aims to locate FV Moya and bring the crew to safety.<\/p>

Authorities are urging anyone with information about FV Moya\u2019s whereabouts to come forward. Acting Executive Officer Lieutenant (Naval) Trish Lake has asked the public to contact her at +1 268-729-5802 or reach the Coast Guard hotline at +1 268-462-3206 or +1 268-462-2841\/2\/3.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ABDF has also reminded mariners to adhere to local and international safety regulations to prevent incidents at sea. Officials have assured the public that no effort will be spared in finding the missing crew and reuniting them with their families.<\/p>
