Pilot Program for Extended School Day Remains in Early Stages<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The government\u2019s experiment<\/strong> with an extended school day<\/strong> remains in its early stages<\/strong>, with only a few schools<\/strong> participating as authorities assess its effectiveness before a possible nationwide rollout.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the Post-Cabinet press briefing<\/strong>, Chief of Staff Lionel Hurst<\/strong> confirmed that the initiative is still being tested<\/strong>, with no major changes or expansions at this time.<\/p>

“I think there were only three schools that they were going to begin the experiment with\u2014so Novel Richards was one, I believe Princess Margaret was another, and there was a third, it may have been All Saints, but don\u2019t quote me,”<\/em> Hurst stated.<\/p>

The program, first introduced in response to concerns over youth engagement and crime prevention<\/strong>, is designed to provide students with structured after-school activities<\/strong>, particularly in sports and fitness<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The ultimate object is to get students to participate in athletics, so that after you\u2019ve spent more than five hours in a classroom, you ought to get out onto the field to run, jump, and so on,”<\/em> Hurst explained.<\/p>

Health concerns, including childhood obesity and high blood pressure<\/strong>, were also cited as key reasons<\/strong> for implementing the extended school hours, with officials hopeful that increasing physical activity<\/strong> will provide long-term benefits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While the program has not yet been expanded beyond the initial test schools, the government is monitoring results<\/strong> before deciding whether to implement it on a broader scale<\/strong>.<\/p>
