Dredging at Parham Harbour Delayed as Work Continues in St. John\u2019s Harbour<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Dredging at Parham Harbour<\/strong> remains behind schedule<\/strong> due to hard bedrock formations<\/strong> and other technical challenges<\/strong>, leading the government to order a new geological survey<\/strong> to assess the best way forward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite the delays in Parham Harbour<\/strong>, dredging operations are continuing at St. John\u2019s Harbour<\/strong>, according to Chief of Staff Lionel Hurst<\/strong>, who provided updates during the Post-Cabinet press briefing.<\/p>

“The survey, you know, they did not speak of the survey yesterday. I should have inquired myself about the survey, but they did speak about proceeding with the dredging,”<\/em> Hurst said.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

He also confirmed that the Blue Ocean team<\/strong> is actively removing rock formations using specialized equipment, and that photos of the materials removed were shown in Cabinet<\/strong>. “And we saw photographs of the rocks that had been removed in a day. They were all in a barge, ready to be taken somewhere. So the work is continuing,”<\/em> he explained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, work at Parham Harbour<\/strong> faces significant setbacks. The Dutch Dredging company<\/strong>, which was expected to assist with certain aspects of the project, has experienced delays due to equipment availability<\/strong>.<\/p>

“At one point, we heard that the equipment was in Guadeloupe, and then we also understand that the equipment might be further away and it would take them a longer time to get to Antigua,”<\/em> Hurst stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The dredging project is intended to improve port accessibility<\/strong> for larger vessels and enhance maritime trade<\/strong>, but challenges have impacted the completion timeline<\/strong>. While the government remains committed to seeing the project through<\/strong>, a revised timeline<\/strong> has not yet been set.<\/p>
