The Government of Antigua and Barbuda says it has asked to be excluded, for now from implementing measures under Caricom which would see free movement of more classes of people.<\/p>

Foreign Affairs Minister Paul ‘Chet’ Greene who represented this country at the CARICOM meeting in Trinidad last week reported on his trip to the Cabinet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among the most important items was the reiteration of the freedom of movement aspiration among certain categories of professional workers within the CARICOM states. <\/p>

“Antigua and Barbuda has<\/g> sought a derogation or delay in the implementation of this aspiration, given the large<\/g> number of CARICOM nationals already resident in Antigua and Barbuda,” Cabinet notes reveal.<\/p>

The minister reportedly told Cabinet colleagues that Antigua may soon have to fall in line since the rules may not permit any further derogation, compelling Antigua and Barbuda to become a recipient.<\/p>\n
