The Antigua and Barbuda government has addressed concerns over the return of nationals from the United States under new deportation measures but says it is too early to determine the exact number of individuals who will be affected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chief of Staff in the Prime Minister\u2019s Office, Lionel Hurst<\/em>, said authorities have been in contact with U.S. officials regarding the deportation process but emphasized that no firm figures have been confirmed.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe don\u2019t know that 110 people<\/em> will be returned,\u201d Hurst said. \u201cPart of the reason they have not yet been returned is that U.S. authorities have not been able to find all of those individuals who have overstayed their time.\u201d<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Hurst noted that the government is prepared to assist those who are repatriated but will wait for more details before outlining specific support measures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhenever they plan to send a batch of persons back, they are in touch with our embassy in Washington, D.C.,\u201d he said. \u201cThey provide names and passport numbers, and we verify that these individuals are indeed Antigua and Barbuda citizens.\u201d<\/p>

The level of support offered will depend on the needs of those returning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIf they are employable, they may be assisted with reintegration into the workforce,\u201d Hurst explained. \u201cHowever, if there are elderly individuals, as was the case in the UK with the Windrush generation, then their circumstances will be different.\u201d<\/p>

The government has assured that it will monitor the situation closely and respond as necessary once more details become available.<\/p>
