\u201dSpeaking ahead of the engagement, which is set for February 19-21 in Bridgetown, Barbados, Ms. Solomon noted that the meeting comes at a focal time for the hemisphere and will be an opportune moment to discuss CARICOM\u2019s approach to various matters. <\/p>

Maritime and air transport, as well as reparations, will also be discussed over the two days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ms. Solomon underscored the importance of regional unity, stating,\u201cIt is important for the Region to unite and speak with one voice on many issues, and this is an excellent opportunity under Prime Minister Mottley\u2019s leadership, as Chair of CARICOM.”<\/p>

The opening ceremony will be held on the afternoon of 19 February at the Sir Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre in Bridgetown, featuring speeches from Prime Minister Mottley; immediate past Chair, Hon. Dickon Mitchell of Grenada; the new Premier of Montserrat, Hon. Reuben T. Meade; and CARICOM Secretary-General, Dr. Carla Barnett. Special Guests- UN Secretary-General, H.E. Ant\u00f3nio Guterres and European Commission President, H.E.Ursula von der Leyen will also address the Ceremony.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Heads of Government are also expected to engage with several distinguished guests, including the UN Secretary-General; European Commission President; Commonwealth Secretary-General, Baroness Patricia Scotland; President of the Caribbean Development Bank, Mr. Daniel Best; President of Afreximbank, H.E. Professor Benedict Oramah; and Executive President of the Development Bank of Latin America (CAF) Mr. Sergio D\u00edaz-Granados.<\/p>

About CARICOM\u2019s Foreign Policy<\/strong>Foreign policy coordination is one of the four main pillars of the Caribbean Community, as specified in Article 6 of the Revised Treaty of Chaguaramas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

CARICOM\u2019s regional, bilateral and multilateral relations are based on principles of democracy, the rule of law, multilateralism, and international cooperation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

CARICOM\u2019s foreign policy agenda was established in 1972 at the Seventh Standing Committee of the Commonwealth Caribbean Heads of Government, which led to the creation of a Standing Committee of Ministers to tackle shared foreign policy concerns. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The committee\u2019s first meeting took place in Georgetown, Guyana, in November 1973, where the Committee was renamed the Council for Foreign and Community Relations (COFCOR).
\u00a0About CARICOM:<\/strong>
\u00a0The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) was established on 4 July\u00a01973 with the signing of the Treaty of Chaguaramas, which was revised in 2001 to allow for the establishment of a single market and economy. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Community comprises fifteen Member States and six Associate Members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is home to approximately sixteen million citizens, 60% of whom\u00a0are under 30 years old. CARICOM rests on four main pillars: economic integration; foreign policy coordination; human and social development;\u00a0and security cooperation.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Through the combined efforts to build a \u201cCommunity for All\u201d,<\/em>\u00a0it remains one of the best examples of integration in the developing world and is the oldest surviving integration movement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The CARICOM Secretariat, the principal administrative organ of the Community, is headquartered in Georgetown, Guyana.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
