Antigua and Barbuda High Commission, 12 February 2025\u2014Bede\u2019s School from the United\u00a0 Kingdom has arrived in Antigua and Barbuda for an exciting ten-day cricket tour.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The delegation includes two under 19 teams\u201415 boys and 11 girls\u2014accompanied by 6 staff\u00a0 members. Their objective is to promote and strengthen cricket among both male and female\u00a0 students as well as develop partnerships with cricket programmes in Antigua and Barbuda.\u00a0<\/p>

Pigott\u2019s Sports Club, Sports Tourism Officer Karen Joseph and High Commissioner Karen-Mae\u00a0 Hill have collaborated closely to plan and execute this prestigious tour. <\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

President of the\u00a0 Pigotts Sports Club, Bakesha Francis-James, along with Hugh \u2018Carda\u2019 Smith, were tasked with\u00a0 co-ordinating a local male and female team to compete against the visitors. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Former West\u00a0 Indies player, Winston Benjamin, along with Ajani Frederick have been coaching a 15-member\u00a0 male team. Keith Frederick has been working with 13 local females.\u00a0<\/p>

The scheduled matches include: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 Friday, 14th February<\/strong>: The men\u2019steam will play a 40-over match at Liberta Sports Club  at 10:00am, while the women\u2019s team will compete at Pigott\u2019s Sports Club at the same  time. <\/p>

\u2022 Monday, 17th February <\/strong>\u2013 T20 matches: the men’s team at Pigott\u2019s Sports Club and  the women\u2019s team at Liberta Sports Club. <\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 Tuesday, 18th February <\/strong>\u2013 40-over match: The men’s team at Sir Vivian Richards  Stadium and the women\u2019s team at Liberta Sports Club for a 30-over match. \u2022 Thursday, 20th February <\/strong>\u2013 Final T20 matches featuring the men\u2019s team at the Liberta  Sports Club and the women\u2019s team at the Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Stadium.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Outside of the cricket field, the Bede\u2019s School touring delegation will embark on an island  tour, visit Shirley Heights, and hold courtesy meetings with prominent figures, including the Honourable Daryll Matthew, Minister for Education, Sports and the Creative Industries,  Honourable Charles Fernandez, Minister for Tourism and Investment; Resident British  Commissioner John Hamilton; and Antigua and Barbuda\u2019s Cricketing Knights. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Callaum Martin, a former Hull City player of Antiguan heritage and a formerstudent of Bede\u2019s,\u00a0 played a crucial role in introducing Bede\u2019s School to the Honourable Daryll Matthew, Minister\u00a0 of Education and Sports, and Her Excellency Karen-Mae Hill, High Commissioner of Antigua\u00a0 and Barbuda to the United Kingdom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On 7th <\/sup>November 2024, Minister Matthew, High\u00a0 Commissioner Hill, and cricket legend Sir Vivian Richards visited Bede\u2019s School to finalise the\u00a0 arrangements for the tour and to meet Dajari Barthley, an Antiguan student enrolled at\u00a0 Bede\u2019s in a football programme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Director of Cricket at Bede\u2019s, Alan Wells<\/strong>, expressed his enthusiasm: \u201cTwenty-six students, 15\u00a0 boys and 11 girls, along with six members of staff from Bede\u2019s Senior School in the UK, are\u00a0 absolutely thrilled to be coming to the beautiful island of Antigua on a cricket tour for the first\u00a0 time. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

We are confident that we will have the most incredible time and make lifelong memories.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

We are excited to meet new friends and acquaintances and forge long-lasting relationships\u00a0 on the island<\/em>.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Minister Matthew <\/strong>also commended on the initiative: \u201cI would like to thank Mr. Peter\u00a0 Goodyer, Principal of Bede\u2019s School, for greenlighting this tour and facilitating such an\u00a0 important sporting exchange.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This tour will undoubtedly enhance the skills of young Antiguan\u00a0 cricketers, both male and female, while also providing valuable exposure for the visiting team\u00a0 from the UK.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I would also like to extend my gratitude to Sir Vivian Richards and High\u00a0 Commissioner Hill for visiting Bede\u2019s School with me last year to ensure the successful planning\u00a0 of this tour. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our vision is to inspire and develop first-class cricketers who will continue to\u00a0 compete at the international level.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Special thanks also go to the Antigua and Barbuda Cricket\u00a0 Association for their support in welcoming the touring team<\/em>.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bede\u2019s School is an independent co-educational school in the United Kingdom. It offers education from preparatory to senior levels and is known for its strong academic and sporting\u00a0 programmes, with a particular emphasis on cricket.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Current West Indies ODI Captain Shai\u00a0 Hope studied at Bede\u2019s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The visit will also allow Antiguan and Barbudan students to learn\u00a0 about opportunities to study at Bede\u2019s. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is expected that tours such as these will be held\u00a0 annually and expanded to include more schools from the UK and Islands in the region.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
