CMC \u2013 The Caribbean Disaster Emergency Response Agency (CDEMA) late Saturday issued an all-clear for countries that were placed under a tsunami warning following an earthquake with a magnitude of 7.6 that occurred north of Honduras.<\/strong><\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

According to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre (PTWC), initial data indicated that based on preliminary earthquake parameters, hazardous Tsunami waves were possible for coasts located within one thousand kilometres of the earthquake’s epicentre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A possible tsunami threat was initially forecast for 20 countries including seven CDEMA Participating States \u2013 The Bahamas, Belize, Cayman Islands, Haiti, Jamaica, the Turks and Caicos Islands, and the Virgin Islands and within 12 minutes revised it to13 countries including five CDEMA Participating States: The Bahamas, Belize, Cayman Islands, Haiti, and Jamaica.<\/p>

The PTWC later indicated that with respect to CDEMA Participating States, Tsunami waves of 0.3 to 1 meters were possible for the Cayman Islands.<\/p>

Authorities in the threatened states were advised to take appropriate action to inform and instruct populations at risk in accordance with their national evaluation procedures and threat assessment protocols.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While the estimated arrival times of the initial tsunami waves varied across the region, the PTWC forecast that the first wave could have arrived within five minutes to one hour.<\/p>

However, following further evaluation and analysis of all available data, PTWC late Saturday issued an update advising that there was no longer a hazardous tsunami threat from this event.<\/p>\n
