As part of the lead up to the second Men and Women United: Stop Gender-Based Violence Walk, the Directorate of Gender Affairs (DoGA) under the Ministry of Social Transformation and the Integrated Health Outreach Inc. <\/p>

Gender-Based Violence Coalition (IHO-GBV) hosted the Change Starts Now: Youth Against Gender-based Violence Workshop over the weekend, on Saturday 1th February 2025.\u00a0<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

The event aimed to raise awareness of gender-based violence (GBV) among youth and arm them with information about healthy relationships and the support services available locally for victims of GBV. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Youth are a vital part of the anti-GBV movement, says DoGA Programme Officer, Raisa Charles. \u201cThey have the power to eliminate existing gender-biases and stigmas that are prevalent among older generations and ultimately steer Antigua and Barbuda into a future without this type of violence.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Youth are also particularly vulnerable to GBV. Forums like this equip them with the knowledge and skills to protect themselves and access the support they need. We\u2019re really pleased to be able to partner with IHO to target this group.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

IHO-GBV is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to improving the well-being of vulnerable groups. In 2024, the group hosted the inaugural Men and Women United: Stop Gender-Based Violence Walk.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

After the extraordinary success of the first event, which saw over 1000 participants, the organisation is targeting 2,000 participants this year.\u00a0<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Kieron Murdoch, Communications and Admin Specialist with Integrated Health Outreach, expressed that focusing on the youth was essential to bringing about change for the next generation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe were really pleased with the response of the young people and we hope that the message of there being no excuse for gender-based violence has resonated with them,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Attendees at Saturday\u2019s workshop had the opportunity to create placards for this year\u2019s Men and Women United: Stop Gender-Based Violence Walk, which is scheduled for International Women\u2019s Day, Saturday, March 8th.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
