Government Pledges Payment to Protesting Prison Officers by February 17<\/strong><\/p>

Junior prison officers at His Majesty\u2019s Prison (HMP) protested on Monday over long-overdue payments and staffing concerns. National Security Minister Sir Steadroy Benjamin intervened, assuring them that their payments would be made by February 17.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The officers have grown frustrated with repeated delays, including a missed November 1, 2024, deadline for a $400 monthly salary increase approved by Cabinet. However, Superintendent of Prisons Trevor Pennyfeather warned that the increase would leave just a $100 gap between junior and senior officers, calling for a broader salary adjustment estimated to cost under $10,000.<\/p>
