Prime Minister Gaston Browne’s proposal to establish a new union for hotel workers in Antigua and Barbuda has gained support from former trade unionist Anderson Carty, who agrees that change is necessary due to the Antigua & Barbuda Workers Union\u2019s (ABWU) alleged failures.<\/p>

Carty accused the ABWU of poor representation and corruption, citing compromised officers and issues with service charge calculations. He acknowledged that Browne had raised these concerns with him on Labour Day but questioned the prime minister\u2019s motives, noting the ABWU\u2019s ties to the opposition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last Thursday, union officials and industry partners met with Browne to discuss forming an advisory board for the new union. The prime minister has criticized the ABWU for collecting over $2 million annually from hotel workers while failing to advocate for their needs.<\/p>
